The DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid, also known as the Burrowing Spider droid or dwarf spider droid, was an unit of battle droid created for the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the years before the Clone Wars. It first saw action during the Battle of Geonosis, where it attacked Republic forces, but became overwhelmed with the amount of Clone Troopers attacking the Confederates. It would, however, still be used by the Droid Army during the Clone Wars and was discovered that it had a single weak spot under its body, as shown by clone captain CT-7567, aka Captain Rex. After the Clone Wars ended and the Republic was transformed into a Galactic Empire, Dwarf Spider Droids became one of the only droid units still used in the Imperial Army and Stormtrooper Corps as an Scout Droid. It became used to attack battle droid holdouts, like the Battle Droid Resistance on Geonosis, and its was used to attack rebel bases on planets like Rhen Var and Tatooine.
